  2. Can citizens influenced by UK media maintain collective responsibility?
  3. What proportion genuinely possess empathy?
  4. How many will sacrifice personally for broader societal benefit?
  5. Does modern British liberty encompass tolerance for cautious individuals?

The Test

This period would unearth the moral character of a nation. The word “freedom” was used frequently, but freedom from what? Freedom to do what? These distinctions matter.

Hayek’s perspective reminds us that even advocates of individual liberty recognized legitimate roles for collective action. The culture of a society reveals itself not in its stated values but in how those values are actually lived.
